Runner Bean Couch to 5k

Couch to 5k Running and Nutrition Programme

It's something you've always wanted to do but just haven't found the time.

Combining running and nutrition, Runner Bean Couch to 5k will take you from couch to running for 30 minutes in 7 weeks, with lots of nutrition and lifestyle information about increasing your energy.

Take your first step to running 5k with our fully qualified personal trainer and sub 3 hour marathon runner,

Sarah Baryga. Over 7 weeks, Sarah will guide our small group through a dynamic warm up, take you for a walk/run to Dun Laoghaire pier and work through a cool down routine. You'll have two further walk/runs to complete as homework before we meet again.

After the 7 weeks, we'll run 5k with you at Shanaganagh Park Run. It's 90% flat, so a great park run to start with.

In addition to our guided running programme, Helen Cassidy, owner of foodhugs, qualified nutritional therapist, and lecturer with the Irish Institute of Nutrition and Health, will teach you how to maximise your energy and health with nutrition ideas, tips, tricks and tasters.

Over the 7 weeks, you will learn about top foods for energy, the truth about fats, foods to help increase sleep, reading food labels, healthy swaps, meal planning and nutrition for race day.

After each training session, you will enjoy a nutritious post workout snack and a cup of something hot (or cold) to rehydrate.

The full 7 week programme costs €135. This includes:

  • 7 guided run/walks with Sarah including warm up/training/cool down (45 mins)

  • 7 post run snacks (with recipe) and a hot (or cold) drink to re-hydrate

  • 7 nutrition talks on a variety of topics with handouts, meal planners and recipes (30 mins)

  • Online support and motivation throughout the week, with the ability to train with others

  • Your very own Runner Bean Certificate when you complete your park run
